PHARMADRY® Vacuum horizontal paddle dryer

The PHARMADRY® horizontal vacuum paddle dryer was primarily developed for  the drying of pharmaceutical ingredients and fine chemicals. Besides its low capital investment costs major advantages of this dryer are its short cycle times, the prevention of contamination by foreign matter, its simple operation and easy validation as well as facilitated cleaning and inspection. The dryer is particularly suited to be used in clean rooms and for sterile applications. The machines are designed and built per cGMP and FDA guidelines.

The important features of the PHARMADRY® are: •  Cylindrical, horizontal vessel with flat welded back cover and a hinged flat front door opening up over the entire vessel diameter. With the door open, the internals of the machine are fully accessible for cleaning and inspection purposes. •  All surfaces in contact with the product such as the vessel, back cover, front door, agitator and vapour filter are heated, providing very efficient heat exchange. •  The cylindrical vessel, the back cover, the front door and the agitator are machined to assure the smallest possible tolerances between agitator and vessel walls. •  Smallest possible tolerances also permit good heat exchange and prevent product adherence. •  All internal surfaces are mirror polished, to improve the flow behaviour of powdery products, the prevention of microdeposits as well as to facilitate cleaning. •  The agitator is installed at the back of the dryer, supported on one side of the vessel only -  The agitator is designed to meet the requirements of this particular dryer type to assure good and even mixing action throughout the dryer volume, also in reverse operation, to provide good discharging characteristics and at the same time reduce friction on the product to a minimum to prevent local overheating as well as to prevent directional thrust or local product compression. -  Speed adjustable using frequency converters with electric drives or control valves with hydraulic drives -  Sealing of the agitator shaft with double mechanical seal or stuffing box.

•  Mechanical seal: the mechanical seal is installed on the rear cover, and is well accessible for cleaning and maintenance purposes. Dry or wet running mechanical seals may be installed.

•  Advantages of the mechanical seal: -  Better final vacuum -  No hazardous leakage or emissions -  No product contamination -  Possibility of sterile operation -  Failure detection system for mechanical    seal

•  Stuffing box with multiple lip seals for undemanding applications. •  Solids discharge valve, plug or ball type, pneumatically operated.
